Compleja superposición transmits live footage from four locations across Puerto Rico, drawing on José Luis González's El país de los cuatro pisos (1980), which examines the island's layered histories of class, identity, and Spanish and U.S. colonial domination through the metaphor of a four-story building.
Extending the exploration of colonialism, capitalism, and contested sovereignty in Untitled (Valora tu mentira americana)(2018), the installation creates a live portrait of Puerto Rico through its dependence on the island's power and telecommunications infrastructures. Recurring electrical outages interrupt the transmissions themselves, allowing the conditions of infrastructural instability to shape the work. What is often framed as the aftermath of natural disasters emerges instead as part of a longer history of colonial extraction, political corruption, and structural inequality.
